Newcastle United (2005–2009)


2005 – 2006

Owen had a rough start on Newcastle as he suffered a thigh-injury in pre-season that ruled him out for the start of the 2005 – 2006 season.

After recovered from pre-said injury, he helped Newcastle secured the club’s first win of the season in a match contenting Blackburn Rovers on 18 September. On 17 December, Owen delivered a perfect hat trick with each of his left foot, right foot, and head, led the club to 4 – 2 away win over West Ham United.

2006 – 2009

God of mischief stood in Owen’s way in the 2006 – 2007, 2007 – 2008, and 2008 – 2009 season as Owen suffered injuries after injuries throughout the seasons which caused him to miss out several major sporting events. But he still managed to make his comeback from injury when he was fully recovered.

Owen scored his first competitive goal for Newcastle in the League Cup against Barnsley on 29 August 2007 and displayed as a late winner against Wigan Athletic three days later.

On 19 January 2008, Owen was awarded the captaincy after being spectating performed extremely well in a 4–1 FA Cup third round replay win over Stoke City.

On 24 May 2009, Newcastle was relegated from the Premier League for the first time in 15 years due to a disastrous season, and this had become the main reason Owen to confirm that he will not re-sign for Newcastle, in preference for a move to a Premier League club, or another top-flight foreign club.

On 3 July 2009, date where Owen become eligible for a free transfer, Manchester United announced that Owen had signed a two-year deal with them.
